Determination of the CBC (Competency Based Curriculum) system in learning activities in the Medical Undergraduate Study Program demands the totality of the institution in its implementation. This curriculum has been started since 2007/2008 until now with various improvements from all sides. Both in terms of teaching blocks to the method of delivering material to students who prioritize the activeness of students adjusted to their competencies as general practitioners.
Since 2014/2015 it has been agreed that the method of group discussion learning is in the form of PBL (Problem Based Learning). PBL is needed to form the right mindset for students in dealing with a medical problem. Students are taught how to find learning points that must be learned from a medical case. With this method, students are able to think critically and be triggered to actively search for sources of knowledge outside of lectures given in large classes with the lecture method. But in its implementation there are still many shortcomings both in terms of material, mastery of tutors, and guidelines for students and tutors. Sometimes a module that can be used for all tutors who will facilitate PBL in each small group discussion is not fully prepared, even impressed that it was prepared suddenly a week before the PBL schedule. This will cause difficulties in finding tutors with the right schedule, lack of mastery of the material for tutors, and consequently have an impact on students.
One component of student learning that has an important role in learning other than lectures and PBL (problem based learning) is skill learning. At the doctor competency examination at the end of the professional study period, students are required to take the OSCE (objective structured clinical examination) exam. Based on the competency standards of Indonesian doctors, it has been written explicitly about the competence of the skills and their performance according to their authority as a general practitioner. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare well in providing skill learning to students so that the output targets of each MKK can be achieved.
On August 15-16, 2019, the Medical Undergraduate Study Program carried out the “Workshop on Preparation of PBL – Skill Modules and Training of PBL – Skill Facilitators” in the Auditorium and Senate of GPP Building A 6th floor Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya. The scope of this activity includes : 1) an explanation of PBL and the importance of PBL to support the CBC system; 2) PBL roleplay -7-jump; 3) making trigger scenarios and preparation PBL module books; 4) evaluation of learning skills; 5) clinical skills training; 6) making of OSCE questions and preparation of skill modules, skill schedules and tutors.
The preparation of PBL and Skill modules is important considering that in each semester, the material will be delivered to students in the form of lectures, practicums / skills, and PBL. The vital role of skill learning in students requires standardization of skills which includes module standardization, schedule and preparation of tools / mannequins needed, training of tutor skills and an explanation of the technical implementation of skills to each PJMK. So it is necessary to have a meeting of all PJMK to compile the PBL and Skill modules so that the program can run optimally in accordance with the blocks that are running in each semester. This workshop program is part of efforts to improve the learning system that has been going on so that it is able to produce students who are active and can learn independently.
