Finalization of Academic Guidelines for Medical Undergraduate Study Program Academic Year 2019/2020

In order to educate future doctors who are able to serve the community in accordance with Standar Kompetensi Dokter Indonesia (SKDI), since 2007, the Medical Undergraduate Study Program of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya runs a Competency Based Curriculum, as mandated by the National Standards of Professional Medical Education. The Competency Based Curriculum is compiled based on the “outcomes” approach using the organizing areas and competency components of SKDI in the design, implementation, and assessment and evaluation of FMUB medical students. As a reference for implementing the CBC, a guide is needed in the form of Academic Guidelines that will provide legal support from the implementation of the curriculum, policies and academic rules. The existence of Academic Guidelines is a vital part of the implementation of main business processes (core business) both in terms of legal (based on applicable laws and regulations) as well as in terms of accountability in the implementation of good education.

Considering the vital role of academic guidelines for medical undergraduate study program that collect all academic potential from educator resources in the Departments and Laboratories in FKUB, the preparation of academic guidelines is expected to involve every contributor of Competency Course (MKK) involved in the education business process. Over the past 6 months, a marathon process has been carried out in elaborative drafting of the Academic Guidelines. So that the contents of academic guidelines can be implemented optimally, it is deemed necessary to finalize the preparation of academic guidelines in the form of focused discussions conducted by the Department and Laboratory representatives in FKUB as well as the contributors of the subjects (PJMK). This activity was held on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Ijen Suites Hotel Malang. Participants are representatives of the Departments  or Laboratories in FKUB and PJMK which will be distributed into 4 FGD groups. Group 1 discusses CHAPTER I and II, group 2 discusses CHAPTER III-V, group 3 discusses CHAPTER VI, IX, X, and group 4 discusses chapter VII and VIII. At the end of the discussion session, Chair of the Medical Undergraduate Study Program, Dr. Triwahju Astuti, SpP (K), summarized important matters related to changes in the Academic Guidelines and asked all group facilitators to compile the latest manuscript that had been discussed together. Focused discussion (FGD) is expected to be a tools to accommodate the aspirations of MKK educators / contributors to the content of academic guidelines for the implementation of CBC by the Medical Undergraduate Study Program, which is getting better based on shared values.
